me when i move to the US:

Shiv Ramdas Mens Rice Activist

America the only country where people are so appalled when I tell them I don't drive that I pretend I don't know how to instead of the truth, which is I find it very boring and I'd rather just take the train/bus and chat with someone than spend that time getting mad at random strangers

THIS was my introduction to these books (my high school had received a donation of the entire collection from the British Council iirc) and it's always a strange delight to see them mentioned (I often feel like I imagined them lol)

In 1991, David Campbell bought the hardback reprint rights to the Everyman’s collection and began issuing them as elegant, cloth-bound editions with gold foil title text and ribbon bookmarks. An Everyman’s edition was now a luxury book, rather than an entry-level or educational text.

"The route that he followed toward murder was determined by a cartography of class." This sentence!!! (from A THREAD OF VIOLENCE: A Story of Truth, Invention, and Murder by Mark O’Connell)

I see what Westerners are trying to invoke when they compare Trump to third world leaders but surely there's something in their canon for that purpose. It gives me the ick (racism).

me lately:

This week I am holding onto my Eisenhower matrix for dear life. I may have reached the part of the ADHD cycle where all the cool things I've said I'll get involved with actually need work putting into them!

Took me all day to get to placing a loan (one of those days) but it's DONE 🥳📘🎧 Looking forward to listening to ALL MY DEAD CATS AND OTHER LOSSES

s. e. smith

ALL MY DEAD CATS AND OTHER LOSSES, my book about grief; who is allowed to mourn and how; and why people want to pathologize the experiences that make us human, is available now in print, ebook, and audiobook formats, wherever fine books are sold (or loaned, shoutout to libraries).
