It's very tempting to assume that *this* new labor transforming technology will be the one to break us out of the bounds of our economic system. But that just isn't the case unless we do the political work first. Trying to separate the two is just ceding to the status quo. Disappointment awaits.

This isn't a critique of AI specifically. It's true of many technologies that transform labor. We will probably see an increase in the average quality of consumer goods and services AI touches, and also new scams and harms. Just like the internet, etc. And we will see an increase in the wealth gap.

This is why my big "what is AI going to do in the future" answer is "more Capitalism." It may very well have the *potential* to do more, but that will never be allowed under our system. It will be used to exponentially increase the productivity of workers and Capital will keep the surplus value.

The single most predictive mechanism for what an AI company is going to do is "what would any other American tech company in a similar position do," not their commitment to any specific ideology regarding the future of AI. Ideology does matter, but mostly doesn't survive contact with the market.

The more transformative a technology is the more damage it can do in the wrong hands. AI skeptics won't accept the transformative potential, which is mostly cope. AI boosters often imagine various tech companies as acting in accordance with ideals, which is mostly projection.

The public thinks republicans are better on corruption. I don't know how to describe that in any other way but as a massive failing of the media and school systems. And of the justice system itself.

Honestly a perma ban is the start. Messing with someone’s lift can be dangerous if not deadly at that level. Forget powerlifting, ban these people from society. Shame is the floor for consequences that need to return

I’m sure you knew this, but so many people I talk to who try to lose weight believe brutal cardio regimes are mandatory, and it’s just not so. Whether that’s good or bad is an individual determination. Some folks like cardio and more eating, others prefer more diet and less cardio.

it’s all a game of how much you like to eat vs how much you hate cardio. Cardio in a weight loss context is literally just an adjustment to the variable that actually matters: “how many calories can I eat today while maintaining a slight deficit” 10,000 steps daily and less food is just as viable!

yup. the glonzos that people keep imputing to data centers means they will keep going to the poorest places we've got, and those places frequently do not have the institutional will to require or to enforce compensating controls like green energy requirements hope they're happy!

being a billionaire and on the internet all day is crazy to me. if i had even five million dollars, you would not find me online whatsoever.
