Sorry for this weirdly specific singling out, but as a language enthusiast, what exactly are you saying here? You would -not- replace "oniichan" with the character's name? What would you do instead? I promise I'm coming from a place of good faith and curiosity! Just never heard this one before.

A lot of people say "no one says Big Bro in English!" but that's what is being said. When it's a word or name that is so well known in English most watchers understand it, I think it should be directly translated and not worked around. It's distracting to hear NIICHAN! and the subs say TAKUYA!

Aah yeah, for subtitles I think I agree, because you get weird dissonance if you do recognize the word. It's one of the subtle difference between subbing and translating/localizing I think!
