The part of that story that's especially striking in light of the current allegations:

If I added up the numbers correctly, 66,769 ballots were cast in the mayoral race last fall. 20% of that is 13,354 names. To recall Mayor Her, someone would need to collect that many names (along with addresses, they need to be registered voters in St. Paul).

So, that's basically what I have found SO FAR. This story broke late on Tuesday night, and it is now Thursday, and Lou Raguse made it VERY clear in that 15 minute segment linked upthread that there are lots of additional details yet to come out, stuff he knows but was told off the record.

The details Lou Raguse knows are all, I think, about the current complaint/investigation. The stuff from the complaint filed by SPPD Chief Axel Henry. I don't think I'm going way out on a limb by predicting that there's more out there.

For example I wonder if there's a connection to this story (which someone just DM'd me): bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne...

Anyway. I feel like some of the more damning details (unwanted touching, commenting on another woman's breasts in the locker room) are being lost in the hilarity over "weinering." Her's behavior was wildly inappropriate with multiple people in multiple situations.

Seriously missed the harassment training videos. Intent doesn’t matter.

Thank you for this thread!!!

Aaaaaaaaaand there's a new statement and NEW DETAILS. I'll drop a link and then screen shot some highlights. www.startribune.com/st-paul-mayo...

New allegations of inappropriate behavior surface against St. Paul Mayor Kaohly HerThe mayor allegedly commented on the breasts of a female police officer and plastered her own portrait over photos of high-ranking police officers inside the department’s administrative offices.www.startribune.com

Her's new statement, in response to questions from the Star Tribune:

And a new detail that apparently was part of why the deputy chief decided she just could not work with Her, and retired:

So yeah, that's the roundup as of 4:26 p.m. on July 30th. I hope someone at one of the local Actual Journalistic Outlets of the Twin Cities sets up a timeline of allegations because we're clearly going to need one!

Huhhhhhhh.

Wtf

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

I feel like I can usually construct an idea of a person in my mind that explains their behavior. This is completely baffling tho.

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

What an absolute shitshow. The last thing we all need.

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

I don't understand. (And I don't expect anyone to be able to clarify, I'm just staring in bemusement.) She's made everything gross and weird but, especially with the pictures i don't think I've run into that particular flavor of gross and weird before.

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

All of this aside, and it's completely disqualifying behavior, what the fuck did she think she was elected and being paid to do?

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

Huh. I’m curious to know more about the mutual communication and culture she’s talking about here. Like I wonder if the subtext is something like “there was already a culture of sexual harassment in this department, so I thought I was just being one of the bros!”

Ответ для Teacup

I mean, the police department hosted Weiner Wednesdays. It sounds toxic to begin with.

Mayor Her appears to have made the mistake of seeing low-grade harassment and inappropriate workplace conduct among cops and thought that was how you bond with them, when it fact it is how cops bond with each other only. Restricted in-group behavior, sorry Mme Mayor!

i know it was already already across everybody's feeds yesterday but i really did feel uncomfortable with the Black Hart making those jokes after less than a day

Ответ для Naomi Kritzer

Ohhh I’d forgotten that

just like other harassers - if they felt this free to do it once, they almost certainly had practice to get it down "right".

how many st paul voters in the twin cities feed... lolsob

“The public judges its government by the way its public officials and employees conduct themselves in the posts to which they are elected or appointed. City officials and employees hold positions of public trust under the scrutiny of public opinion, and their actions must be above suspicion.”

And on the petition be sure people write their FULL address including city state zip and sign, write their name.

Ответ для Pat Thompson

There should be something on it that makes it clear that the minimum number of signatures is 2053 people who ranked Her first. People who did not should probably not sign the petition? I’m not quite sure how that part works.

Ответ для Iruka

No it’s all voters.

Ответ для Pat Thompson

Ah! Really wish some of that would use more plain language… it doesn’t describe the mechanism or who does any validating or, if there’s a transparency issue, who helps with transparency…

Ответ для Iruka

They validate after, as with the current “right to repair” petition that has been in the news. It’s the same process.

Ответ для Iruka

You can sign the recall petition if you are a registered voter who lives in Saint Paul, it does not matter who you voted for or ranked first. I mean, how would they even know? Your ballot is private!

This is why we need smart people like you people to break down these ordinances! I read them and I think I understand them and I clearly don’t.
