Saw three of these quite huge wee beasties on the Hebe. Apparently they’re a Hornet mimicking hover fly. Look like hornets to avoid predators. Good pollinators. Not aware I’ve ever seen one before. Two wings/big eyes =fly Four wings and smaller eyes = hornet/wasp. Every day is a school day.
