Read some of Heather Cox Richardson's stuff. This is the "cowboy" mentality. 1950's saturated US media with the independent, right-thinking, American cowboy hero. It's a bullshit narrative that Reagan made the party image, then GOP bilked average Americans out of everything they had for 50 years.
