it's also extremely easy for a lot of (other) autistic folks to hold jobs. and it's relevant that both statements are true in the neurotypical pop, too. so basically holding a job is easy for some humans and hard for others and neurodivergent status is fairly irrelevant here.

Autistic people are disproportionately unemployed when you adjust for population size and then compare it to the neurotypical pop. 50% of american autistic adults are currently unemployed.

Also, it's impossible to provide a single, universally accepted % of unemployment for autistic Americans. The media numbers - often as high as "85% unemployment" actually - are widely debated and lack the nuance required to reflect the actual experience of the autistic community.

So you're focused on diagnosed cases of autism not actual prevalence. I have ASD and also work in healthcare. I'm acutely aware of the impact of significant gaps in screening, historical diagnostic criteria, and disparities in healthcare access on statistics. Most people with ASD are employed fine.
