I will note what I've always said on Twitter: Leave leftists alone about not voting for Dems. Nader voters still don't regret Bush v. Gore; Stein voters will tell you they aren't responsible for Trump. The Abrams strategy of enfranchising non-voters works. Which is why the right is focused on that.

And yet, Nader voters are directly responsible for the election of Bush, and by extension the invasion of Iraq. Meanwhile, if Stein voters had voted responsibly, we would not STILL be enduring Trump. Fuck all those guys. I hate them more than MAGAs.

The biggest danger of those “heighten the contradiction” types isn’t what they do with their own vote, but the way they sow apathy amongst non-voters. “Both sides are the same” is a stone’s throw from “so none of this matters.”

Yes! I’m still making my way through the debates around adoption of the constitution, and every discussion was very grounded in practical reality of what happens when government goes wrong. It’s been “going right” for so long, people can’t even conceptualize what happens if it fails.

Not every Nader voter fits that mold. I live in MN and voted for him with the knowledge that it couldn't affect the outcome. Dems had spent the 90s becoming more conservative, and for me and others it was a way to signal that they needed to change direction.

A side effect of the EC is that people routinely devalue their vote because they’re too busy using game theory about how it could be interpreted to consider the more literal impact of voting for one candidate or another. Just an observation!

In my particular case it was mostly naivete. I wasn't paying much attention and genuinely didn't think W had a chance of winning, because of the whole 'could barely form a coherent sentence' thing. I pay attention now at least.

I'm a Nader voter and I absolutely regret Bush v. Gore. I was an idiot then. Stein voters and Cornel West voters and Polio Pete voters are idiots now.

I voted for him in 2000 but I live in Minnesota, which wasn't in play. I am seeing a lot of raging at people who are never going to vote on this site, which seems pretty pointless and even counterproductive.

The summary is "year-round permanent canvassing operations, in an election year and not in them, yields results." Abrams in GA and Wikler in WI are turning things steadily around in both states by investing in building up turnout.

It turns out there aren't red states and blue states, there are blue states and there are voter-suppression states. It's a very different perspective on our political realities, and faces the fact that Red Team is 25% of the population, Blue Team is 25% of the population, and Didn't Vote is 50%.

Fascism is on the ballot and we have to vote accordingly whether we like the shitty person with a D next to their name or not. "Punch all Nazis" must also include "vote against all Nazis," but that doesn't sound as militant and satisfying. We don't need to build "The Resistance" when we WIN.

I'm very impressed with what "The Resistance" did to slow the Trump juggernaut intent on destroying American civil rights and our multi-ethnic democracy. People saying "we got through the Trump years..." are forgetting not all of us did. And those same people blame Biden for Roe being overturned.

The year something happens in does not mean that's who's responsible for it happening. Government is a slow-moving behemoth that is hard to turn with the levers of power, one that went off on in the same direction it was set even after Trump lost. Roe was repealed in 2022, but it was lost in 2016.

I am way way more left than any of the Ds I'm gonna vote for in the general. It is what it is. I like them better than the alternative, which is all the impact I can have on this election. Enrolling new voters and radicalizing them for the primaries is where it's at.
