Given the community has already shown they are fine with digital games, via buying Playstations w/o disc drives, & digital games, this isnt going anywhere Its been years since I bought a game on disc I grew tied of scratches and having to keep track of and swaping discs

Blurays are highly scratch resistant, and how often does one really swap discs for it to be meaningful.

No need to try, a simple drop does it Thats why I pretty much stopped buying discs years ago Dealing with them simply was no longer worth it

It's pretty easy to take care of a disc. I cannot for the life of me relate to your perspective. Sounds like an absolutely bonkers thing to give up your ownership rights for.

The fight shouldn't be to save discs It should be over game ownership once purchased, no matter what format The fight over discs is a distraction

I don't know man, seems like your already quite content with giving up on ownership. Since you've already done so. But yes, I agree we should fight for digital ownership too. I don't think that should mean fewer options for the users. There is no benefit in letting Sony control all of this.

Owning a disc copy is illrelvant when the fight is over ownership Just because you have a disc copy, wont mean the game works, if the license is revoked

Having a disc means you can trade and borrow. There's a huge distinction there.

I simply stated that Discs are legacy media, and are on their way out no matter how the rights issue is resolved They cant hold enough, the data on them is outdated by release day, and they get easily damaged Their being phased out is simply inevitable, like floppy disks

I do not care. I, and many others, like discs. And you know what they did in the past when a game was too large for one disc? They gave you two. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you should be the sole voice in deciding if they should stay or go. Think about someone else for once.

People liked floppy disks too, and 8 tracks, and beta vcrs. But eventually they were phased out because they were no longer practical Having a disk means nothing if the game has a license check built in. The issue isnt the media, its the rights

My PS5 has a disk drive. I have lots of game disks. That doesn't change 27% of PS5s sold had no disk drive At the end of the day, what format you have the game on, doesn't matter, if you dont have rights to it so it wont play The fight should be over rights, not format

Why do you think they had no disc drive? The players didn't ask for that. The fact that was even the case is the root of the problem, the corporation ushers a change quietly and, when people roll with it, then and only then does the standard change.

I need you to understand that corporations will do everything they can to seize control, and it starts with these quiet changes. I still miss the headphone jack phones once came with, and you know why they did away with that? To force users to buy adapters or Bluetooth headphones.

So think about it, what will come once they get rid of digital ownership of games? Subscription-locked games is my guess. I mean, Ubisoft reminds us that we already don't own the digital games we pay for, so I need you to keep asking yourself "what will they take from us next?"

You keep throwing that number around, 27%, but something tells me that's not the full story. I'll have to look into it, but it's entirely possible they didn't stock enough with (most likely intentional) and players gave into FOMO so they bought the without. I know Nintendo did that with GKCs, so...
