If our takeaway from Twin Falls is more guns everywhere, which is profitable for the gun industry, we’re taking away the wrong lesson. The immediate question is why this dangerous person had access to a weapon of war in the first place. 🧵

We aren’t safe in a guns everywhere America, not even at a drive-thru. The Twin Falls shooter is believed to have used an assault-style rifle, a weapon of war that has no place in our communities. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and injured and the Twin Falls community.

This nation is not “free” if we’ve accepted mass shootings as inevitable and our only line of defense is to hope for the best in every circumstance. “Everyone should be armed” is a clear admission of failure when we know that every shooting is preventable. Every single one.

Assault weapons are the weapon of choice for most mass shooters because they are designed to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Weapons of war have no place in our communities.

I get that the gun industry is interested in feeding its bottom line, that much is clear. But we should all be interested in prevention that saves lives instead of waiting for the next mass shooting to happen.
