I’m not at all trying to defend this but what is the voltage situation on these devices? If it’s super low I could imagine it serves the purpose of a reminder for the individual to realize their current behavior may harm themselves or those around them & shift them into a better mindset.

this center has been involved in pinching the soles of their “patients” feet until they are black and blue, forcing them to eat hot sauce, spraying them with cold water. they’ve replaced the pinches with electric shocks because they’re just as painful but don’t leave a mark.

some families have sued, but there’s a contingent of families who see it as the only thing that will work and support the center tooth and nail. they see their child stop hurting themselves or lashing out and conclude it’s for their own good. what they’re doing though is the equivalent of beating—

a dog until it stops barking. in my view, that’s how they see their children and loved ones they keep under torture for years on end. they see outward behavior cease and are uninterested in the inner life of their loved ones. it’s like a parent who locks their kid in a room until they stop crying.

it’s just abuse justified by the fact that their loved ones are driven into total submission by way of painful torture. they appear outwardly more normal to the families, and that is seen as wellbeing. they don’t flap their hands because it means torture, they don’t yell because it means torture.
