Excellent essay, especially after @economist.com featured a travesty of a "By Invitation" submission from a man whose arguments scarcely differ from Putin's.

While the article is great, the subheading on its own can lead to a lot of misunderstandings on what you are actually arguing (as is already happening), particularly on social media where people often don't read the article.
