Primary source (actual statute or regulation, for instance) is always best. Secondary sources from reputable scholarly journals or books/book chapters written by known experts. Don't they teach this in your history program? It was taught in my first history course - a methods course.

Ok, I thought it was enough to cite the 1934 Act that established the doctrine. So you want three sources for every statement made. I guess I have my assignment.

You should never cite something you haven't actually read. If you read the 1934 statute, you'd see that it did not include the Fairness Doctrine, which didn't even come into existence until 1949. Time is linear! I once edited a complex, technical scientific document - about 250 pages. I read every
