I recall our similar-age class being asked 'What would you use for measuring angles?'. It was before we'd been introduced to the protractor, but I'd just read 'The Ladybird Book Of Maps', so I tentatively answered 'a theodolite?'. Not wrong, but not the answer the teacher expected.
