I love how Zeyn Joukhadar used 12th-century Sufi poem The Conference of the Birds (Mantiq al-Tayr) and the history of Little Syria as thematic frame for his trans protagonist's journey in The Thirty Names of Night. I love the way the protagonist's trans journey is more than a personal endeavor: it healed generational pain and treated the body and art as precious archives. The moment he finally found a name for himself was a profound one, reflecting his entire journey (it's an Arabic word for "rare", btw).
