I think the abandonment of indigenous elements in peoples weird west setting because they don't want to confront the uncomfortable specter of colonialism and the hollywood indian, let alone get in the way of their fun, is cowardice and contributes to the erasure that often defines indigenous racism.

Aye, the solution isn't to "get rid of the Indians" because then you're just whitewashing the setting further. The solution is to better with Indigenous peoples (and other POCs) who made the West such a diverse and dynamic and interesting place!

Right? In my experience, a lot of these companies view Indigeneity in any form as just something not worth the effort of inclusion. It's not worth looking for those connection points and they'll still get criticism instead of praise. Which, sometimes, but that doesn't mean it's not worth the work.
