If I can get earnest for a second here, in just the last year or so the various music polls and tournaments On Here have introduced me to a lot of New Order’s wider catalogue that I was totally unfamiliar with, and I’m finding that I actually really enjoy it. So thank you!

[GASP!] You don't like Blue Monday?! To the bonfire! 🔥 Glad you're enjoying their stuff. This is a great place to find new favs My close fav to BM'88 is Jetstream. We learned yesterday that @gamecat235.bsky.social is a big fan too, but I don't think that's on too many "Top 10 NO song" rankings 🤷‍♂️

Top 5 favorite New Order songs: 1. Slow Jam 2. True Faith 3. Jetstream 4. Everything’s Gone Green 5. Blue Monday (‘88) I’ve been a NO fan since the 80’s / 90’s but honestly prefer Get Ready and Waiting for the Sirens’ Call as *albums* over the “traditional” catalog.

That's a mighty fine list Let's see, I guess if I have to throw a Top 5 list together w/o thinking too hard about it, I got: 1. Blue Monday '88 2. Jetstream 3. True Faith 4. Temptation 5. People on the High Line (not a typo) Had to sacrifice Bizarre Love Triangle and Slow Jam 😢

Fun game. Here are mine, which I’ll admit are mostly pretty boring/typical: 1) Temptation 2) True Faith 3) Bizarre Love Triangle 4) Dream Attack 5) Regret (sorry, not sorry) … … … … … … The Infinite Bottom) Blue Monday

I am impressed that BLT ranks so high while Blue Monday is below 2NU’s This Is Ponderous (assumed). (My problem with BLT is that I heard it a million-billion times in the 80’s on the radio, and then another million-billion times in clubs in the 90’s/00’s. It’s synthpop’s Pour Some Sugar On Me).

This is *exactly* the issue I have with Blue Monday. It’s a terrible song, but it’s been made a bajillion times worse as a result of the number of times I’ve had to endure it. Also, Pour Some Sugar on Me is…awesome? Like, in a so-bad-it-rules kind of way.

Now I wonder if I had lived in your timeline where my listening experience with BLT was swapped with BM if I would feel the same as you. I had to *request* Blue Monday (in multiple clubs, with multiple different DJs) so that they wouldn’t just play BLT.

Well, your timeline sounds a lot more fun. While you were out clubbing and dancing, I was likely hanging out in a basement with the goth kids and other assorted weirdos. They all LOVE Blue Monday.

::looks at pictures of me in the 90s:: ::looks at pictures of my friends in the 90s:: ::looks at the clubs I went to:: Dammit. I’m sorry.

See, I will just never tire of BM'88 and still jump up when it's played at, say, a wedding reception (uh, yes, I *am* at the age where that's a much more common dance venue than a club) BLT is sure fun to dance to, tho!

Oh, I’m in my 50’s… if I show up at a club these days it’s more to catch up with a friend who I haven’t seen in years or because someone passed away and since the clubs were how we all knew each other once upon a time, the gathering is there.

Ah, Gamecat, I'm still trying to figure out if I should be very impressed or completely aghast at you comparing Bizarre Love Triangle with Pour Some Sugar on Me...

Ответ для guerrieroc

Probably aghast. I guarantee that 17 year old me is currently plotting revenge for this heretical take.

Regret's great, it's in my ... Top 15? Maybe slighly higher? Ok, since from literally day 1 (*) I have not vibed with TECHNIQUE, I didn't even remember Dream Attack. I'll have to give it a try. Deep cut, tho! * posted about that before, don't want to bore you again

Dream Attack is a *very* recent addition to my top 5. I used it on my soundtrack for a recent D&D mini-campaign that I’m running, and it really shot up the list.

Hey, @locraen.bsky.social: Power's out due to a storm, so I came to a Starbucks, and they're playing New Order's "Regret"!

The Dream of the 90s is alive in…Chile!

A few weeks ago, in a different location, I heard an Iggy Pop song! It blows my mind that you can hear artists like this in Starbucks, here at the end of the world... Do they do this in the States?

Ответ для guerrieroc

Can’t say I frequent Starbucks often (I’m fortunate enough to live in what is probably the best coffee city in the US, so I’m spoiled for alternatives). But my experience there has been that they mostly play bland, inoffensive indie rock.

P.S. you say that you’re at the end of the world, but honestly, as a fellow inhabitant of the western edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire, I’d probably consider you a closer neighbor than someone who lives in, say, Virginia.

If you're getting grocery store/coffee shop-type public space Iggy here in the US, it's pretty much gonna be limited to just "Lust for Life" or "Real Wild Child (Wild One)."

Ответ для Matt P.

It was indeed "Real Wild Child (Wild One)" [from BLAH-BLAH-BLAH]

Ответ для Matt P.

Trying to remember if I've ever heard "The Passenger" in a public space or just in movies/trailers

Ответ для Matt P.

This is true. If you want Iggy deep cuts, you gotta go to one of the smaller coffee shops where the baristas choose their own soundtrack. And if that music is playing directly from a turntable, then you know you’ve come to the right place.

'Candy' seems like it had a moment, but I haven't heard it in years.
