I think you're over estimating. A tiny fraction of people who think about Sim City are thinking of SNES. It might have stood out on SNES, but its core audience where on micros and PCs. (It was primarily an Amiga and Mac release, then C64 and DOS.) I think more people think of Sim City 2000, anyway.
