Sorry, in this case I disagree. MAHA seems like a vulnerable sector. Their stated concerns — ARE in alignment with sane people’s, they’ve just been co-opted. Why not co-opt back? AOC is not stupid.

Because, I cannot emphasize this enough, their concerns are not actually real. They are not approaching this from a place of rationality or knowledge. They are working off a combination of motivated reasoning, emotional triggers and manipulation, selfish obsession and willful ignorance.

Except MAHA voted for a guy and a party who oppose all food regulation and support and represent the industrial agricultural lobby. The GOP is not subtle or quiet about this. Unless you want to say these voters are delusional or stupid we have to ask what these voters actually want.

...for autistic people, engaging with MAHA does make us fear being thrown under the bus (and note that there's big overlap between neurodivergent and trans communities, so if you're concerned about trans people thrown under the bus, understand this could worry a lot of trans people as well).

The problem as I see it is that "gaining" them isn't worth the people you lose (and, more importantly, ENDANGER) by letting them onboard. A LOT of them were "crunchy liberals" who flipped because "other people" in the tent got too 'uppity' and (from their POV) displaced them... 1/2

...so maybe you get them back, but in doing so you're telling (mostly younger, vulnerable) people that that they're implicitly LESS welcome, that they're safety matters less, etc. It's a surefire way to depress engagement with the votes they need most, just to temporarily win back GenX cranks. IMO

If AOC is seen to suddenly reject her own base and her own principles, if she goes full RFK, of course. But why the fuck would she ever do that? Why? It makes no sense. But if you tell me there are areas regarding food safety/big ag she could push, shouldn’t she be doing that anyway?
