On this day in 1897, Elizabeth Packard died. Her husband had her committed to an asylum for 3 years by falsely claiming that she was insane. After getting out, she pushed for an 1867 Illinois law guaranteeing public hearings before anyone, including wives, could be institutionalized. #WeTheMen
