OTD in 1923, the Nat’l Woman’s Party launched its campaign for an Equal Rights Amendment declaring that: “Men & women shall have equal rights throughout the US & every place subject to its jurisdiction.” Today, the Constitution still does not include an explicit commitment to sex equality. #WeTheMen
When in doubt, I throw the 9th Amendment at it. We only need our rights explicitly codified because so many criminals hide behind the law, behind legal interpretation, behind legal precedent. If more people acted naturally with compassion & in good conscience, even contracts would be unnecessary!
Ned PeyrouxI'm watching the Amend series on the 14th Amendment. I get the 14th Amendment was needed because courts were corrupt & didn't interpret the 9th Amendment justly. The 9th Amendment doesn't specify citizenship, only personhood. So basically, all you bigots are traitors only the courts won't enforce it
The US-government ratified The International Covenant on Civil & Political Rights in 1992, but few US-lawyers reference it in cases. The 9th Amendment was referenced alongside other Amendments in Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) to protect the right to privacy. Yet, lawyers debate it more than use it.
