As the calendar flipped this weekend, the sidewalks of Somerville filled with mattresses abandoned by people whose leases had ended. This one, at least, has something to smile about!

And for those who prefer their abandoned mattresses with a serving of nineteenth century history, in NYC, all rental leases expired on the same day, 1 May, leading to every renter moving their beds the same time. (Beds and mattresses were the most valuable items people left in early C19 probates)
