The word ‘biometry’ is coined in 1831 by William Whewell (1794-1866) but he is referring to actuarial life expectancy calculations. Francis Galton co-opts it to describe "modern methods of statistics" applied to biology. In 1901, he, Karl Pearson & WFR Weldon found the journal Biometrika.
