The Cairo, a City class ironclad river gunboat, completed in 1861. She was the first ironclad to be sunk by a mine when one exploded under her in the Yazoo River on December 12, 1862. Parts of the boat were salvaged and preserved near the Vicksburg National Cemetery. #NavalHistory
