I just recalled an editor I briefly worked with a decade or so ago. She had lived in Chicago for a time, years earlier. I'm from there, and I lived in a Hispanic neighborhood for a few years. Somehow, the fact that the word "bodega" isn't used much in Chicago came up. She INSISTED that it NEVER was.
