You opened a credit card. ICE now knows where you live. Here's how when you open a credit card your address leaves your bank, goes through middlemen companies, and ends up with ICE. ICE plans to use this data for immigration and 'voter fraud'. No warrant More: www.404media.co/you-opened-a...

Every time someone buys an airline ticket, it goes through homeland security too.

We wouldn't be here without the patriot act, and a lot of treason.

Ответ для Me and

The patriot act really should've been named the "terrorists win act". Because all it did was legalize government-backed domestic terrorism, as a reaction to terrorism, which was the entire point of the terrorism it was in reaction too.

if we had a functioning legislature it would have long ago banned the practice of buying data to get around the legal process

But...but...how can the Congressional reps make enough to afford that summer house, four cars, and the yacht?

Ответ для Omaha Sternberg

you're talking about the ability to buy data generally, which should also be sharply curtailed. all i was asking for was that the cops shouldn't spend our money to buy it in lieu of getting a warrant or subpoena or what have you

Ответ для six

Well, that goes without saying since it violates the 4th amendment. The buying/selling of data has been going on for 30 years. I think in the beginning it wasn't conceived of as anything beyond a leg up in business. But it's gone well past that and should be curtailed drastically.

Ответ для Omaha Sternberg

"Warrantless purchases do not violate existing statutory frameworks, and courts have yet to pronounce on the constitutionality of the practice." SCOTUS ruled geofence warrants are 4A a month ago, but I don't think that applies to use of data brokers

What can we do?

The federal government — and frankly, anyone— can buy this data at any time. Why do you think you get all those credit card come-ons in your snailmailbox?

Ответ для T. Boone Doggle

A credit freeze is your best friend!

Former Ad Tech worker - this is how I explain to people worried about a gov gun database being formed that it already exists, and you voluntarily contributed to it.

This kind of thing is why I hate how abused the definition of consent is used everywhere. It isn't consent without understanding, but the law doesn't care about that. We "all agreed to this" even though pretty much no one actually ever agreed, and certainly wouldn't if they knew about it.

Ответ для TangentFoxOfficial

Techically it is there, in the fine print of the EULA. This is Netflix's EULA, and I think they are one of the better ones when it comes to tracking users. Now imagine what something evil like Google, FB, or OpenAI is doing with your information.

Illegal? Sure should be, if not. Theft of personal info.

Makes me want to change my middle name to “Fuckice”

yeah, they know where everyone lives, so what's with the traffic stops (so often not even the people they claim to seek) if not to terrorize with random public executions?

Ответ для libramoon

Because they can and it's fun for them to terrorize people and kill them, if necessary, for legitimate funzies because no one is going to prosecute them based on the definition of the entire "agency."

What about existing credit cards?

Well, this is terrifying. A reminder for no reason that if you're starting a business, don't list your personal address. Our clients can use our professional business address wherever it's accepted. Wherever it's accepted. Wherever.

Current accounts work using the same systems (reporting to credit reference agencies) and are more much more prevalent than credit cards.

Surveillance state via private company data collection.

there is never a warrant needed to check someone's creidt report, just a few bucks.

America Children pull into the wrong driveway, get shot. ICE shows up no badges no id no knock no warrant and just kidnap you.

Reuters selling my data to homeland security was not on my bingo card

Ah yes. Welcome to the US of America where you are no longer free.

They're ushering the neo-luddism movement at breakneck speed.

Spouse had a stalker, after many decades(when she was 13).

#AbolishICE

WTF

This same methodology is used to track the purchase of guns and ammunition. Did you complain about that?

Jesus Christ, is there anything they aren't scooping up to track anyone with? Fuck ICE. ABOLISH ICE.

Being poor is paying off today

Is this not theft? How can this possibly be legal?

Ответ для tvlad

The information now belongs to the credit card company, because you voluntarily provided it to them. They can sell it if it is not against the law to do so.

Ответ для haveyouanywool

How did I voluntarily do that if I didn’t even know they were there?

Ответ для tvlad

You voluntarily gave your information to the bank that issued the credit card, your name, address, and so forth. (If you didn’t want to disclose that information, you could have declined the credit card offer.) Now they own that personal information. Now they can sell it, if it is legal to do so.

Ответ для haveyouanywool

This isn't true. IF you told the credit card company you did not want your data sold, they can't do it without violating the law. You can sue the shit out of them if they do. However, many cc companies don't give you the option to keep your data private. Solution? Don't get a cc through them.

Ответ для Omaha Sternberg

Good luck not having a credit card these days.

Ответ для Omaha Sternberg

And it’s not illegal to sell a customer’s information if they have made the requisite privacy disclosure posters. They often obscure the opt-out options, though.

🚨ATTENTION ALL🚨

Ok so can you stop promoting #betterhelp? Also why is it so hard to delete your account and data from your site 404?

I was just telling my wife that I'm really tempted to switch back to cash for as many transactions as possible. Let "them" (gov't, big business, etc.) just know that I take out $$ every Friday, but not what I do with it. Hating this Big Brother world of ours

if youre afraid of ice, watch the movie snowden for a quick update to ten years ago, now everything has eyes

This ONLY happens if you open a credit card with a bank/credit union without checking to keep your info private. And I highly recommend NOT opening a credit card with ANY company that doesn't allow you to do that!

As an European I think that our governments are flawed at the European and national level but when I look at what is possible in the US I'm happy to live in the EU and I sincerely hope that's some day your government'll sart protecting individuals instead of companies/ authoritarianism
