Maybe this is controversial but I'd argue that From Soft games don't really have story the way people say they do — they have the silhouette of a story. It's like drawing a picture of an animal that you've never actually seen, but got to feel the form of in a pitch black room.

And I'm not knocking it, to be clear! Literally all of Armored Core worked this way before Souls was even a twinkle in Miyazaki's eye!

It does bug me that people will speak in an authoritative tone on what going on in Bloodborne when it's largely speculation — though I do genuinely appreciate it when a specific piece of in-game text is actually cited for people's conclusions.

Yeah, obviously that style of environment is catnip to the people who prefer spinning their own Fan Theory based on nothing, rather than analyzing the text. But part of me still prefers that to writing like "Hello, as you know, you are the president"

I think it’s true for most games built on the Souls formula, but Armored Core is kind of a bad example here - those games tell you what’s happening in their plots very clearly

I don't know about that, you're as much of if not more an observer as a participant in those stories.

Is this a controversial statement? Any credible souls lore hound will usually state that it's speculation and cite in game text or locations of in game items

It's kind of half and half honestly
