Eh, I figure thinking machines are a possibility. I don't actually know if shoving them into an android brain is a possibility - in my own book the "androids" are often remote-piloted drones. Self-awareness isn't something unique and special - there are spiders who are probably self-aware.

to, say, figure out how to drive a car because in raw abstract thought terms it's no better than a dog. Meanwhile, a chatbot could be amazing at interaction but be no smarter than a mouse just because of hyperspecialized programming. We might not see human-like AIs for a long, long time
