A dream job ...for an alcoholic

A friend of mine worked for an MP (that she would never name because she was too scared of repercussions 20 years later when I met her.) After 2 years in the job she was an alcoholic. Combination of abusive MP boss, pressure of work, to drink like the boys and availability of alcohol.

No long hours or loneliness in any other profession.

I'm old enough to remember what happened to Charles Kennedy. I'd argue this culture ended him.

You can throw in the cocaine residue that was found all over Parliament when they did a sweep of the building. It's not a serious place of work - it's largely still a club where posh wee boys go so they don't have to get a proper job; or indeed do a day's work. The place is full of overgrown kids.

22% had concerns about a colleague’s drinking Are they blind to colleagues' drinking? Or the impact that drinking has on their colleagues? Or just entirely without general care for others? There should be a near ban on alcohol in HoP. The few exceptions clearly identified.

What next, are they going to claim the finance sector's prolific cocaine habit is "irresponsible", "unprofessional" and "dangerous"?
