#OnThisDay July 31 1914: Eric Wickman, a 27-year-old Swedish immigrant laid off from his job, founds Greyhound Bus Lines in Hibbing, Minnesota. By 1935 it was carrying 652 million people annually, surpassing the passenger volume of all the Class I American railroads, combined.

I wonder if the bus lines were subject to federal ICC route/frequency/fare regulation like the railroads were? I suspect there were a lot of state-by-state differences, hence the big count of subsidiary companies...

I took a greyhound from Morris (Mn) to the cities back in mid 70ies, I liked to sit in the back of the bus. There was an indigenous gentleman sitting in the back claiming I couldn’t - cuz I was white, blond, blue eyed.. We became friends on the 3 hours (interesting) journey. Never forget that!
