being told that women are NPCs and that as a white guy our bodies and lives were for him to use as he pleased, and noticing that so far it wasn't turning out that way and he hadn't gotten what he felt he was entitled to and someone needed to be punished for that and that day it was my turn

I've long wondered if the way media sells idealized women overpowers some boys/young men. So they don't believe they will ever achieve what media tells them they should--a relationship with such a woman--and that plus testosterone throws them into a tailspin.

Oh the poor boy, overpowered by the awful media, he has to threaten a stranger with rape and murder? No. Media tries to make everyone feel shitty — it's how they sell things — it never stops telling me I am too fat/old/ugly and that I only have value if I appeal to men. So what? I know my value.

Something is causing this. What do you think it is?

Something way older than “the media,” my guy. This is not a brand new problem.

It isn't in one sense. But it feels like some of this is new.

Yes, the part where some guys starting paying attention to it except as an excuse to demonize the minority of their choice.

I’m in my 40’s. My freshman year of college I recall hearing the % was 1/3. 1/3 of women have been raped or sexually assaulted. I perceived it as high. It didn’t take long for this to flip. The % was nowhere near reality. “This is new” You perceive it as new b/c of env. (Cont)

It doesn’t meet your reality in the people you have chosen to surround yourself with & therefore you perceive this as a shift, perhaps brought forth by media, politics, etc. In reality, the only thing that’s changed is that they’ve been emboldened (quiet part) & are revealing our lived truth. 2/3

The misogyny is deep rooted. My husband & I have discussed this a lot. Q. What’s the worst thing he was called? A. A girl. What did this teach him? A. A woman is worse than the worst man. *Boys are taught to hate us* I’m a feminist & he chose to learn (yrs ago) but he’s exception, not rule. 3/3

misogyny

Ответ для Cory

Right. But where is that coming from?

patriarchy

Ответ для Cory

I get that general oppression starts there. But not the rage. Rage is born somewhere else.

Ответ для Williams.

The rage comes from not having gotten the things that patriarchy tells him are his by right from people who misogyny tells him are inferior

Using your bookstore event... That wasn't patriarchy. That wasn't even misogyny. That was outright mental. But it's not the only time I've heard that kind of story.

Okay you asked me what my explanation was and I gave it to you and you are telling me that I am wrong okay got it

I disagree, yes.
