You don’t. You file the forms for a temporary work visa, and subsequently a green card while on permission to remain . I live in Texas, and have 4 work colleagues (2 Venezuelan, 1 Honduran & 1 Mexican), who all got permanent status after arriving and not being granted asylum.

work visas are unavailable for people who are not admissible, so that's wild. same with applying for the green card - you're not in the category of people who can do that unless you're very, very lucky.

Maybe this is a language thing. “Work visa” is like an H-1b, or L or R. Permission to enter the country to work. Work authorization, the work permit, is available to people applying for asylum or with another process or status in effect.
