They went on to say this, and it's just the funniest combination of a) not understanding a pretty common tactic cops use to stop traffic on a freeway with b) being shocked that cops drive differently than non-cops.

I busted up laughing at "every other case, is an out of control driver". In the two decades I've been driving, I've seen at least a dozen traffic breaks. It's almost always been CHP, and I've been pleased with the general attitude of "Chippie's doing something weird, best ease up and stay back".

The rage at what is a safety measure to protect everyone on the road is stupefying. I wonder how much of the tantrum comes from being personally inconvenienced.

I lived on the east coast until my 30s, and I never saw it out there, but… you live and learn! There's so much to despise the cops for, including what they do in and with the cars, but this one definitely wasn't on my list.

Neither mine. I've hit debris on the highway, I'm happy to have someone do the risky business of clearing the lanes without a full CalTrans callout and the time it takes. And to not have to go under my car in the rain to make sure everything's alright.

totally understand the need for these tactics for unsafe situations, but i kinda recoil seeing the prescribed distance here is 300 feet. really, a whole football field? seems way excessive.
