If you can't stand up for a fellow journalist when she's being ridiculously bullied and demeaned for asking a basic question of a public leader, you sure as hell aren't going stand up for anything as abstract as a national principle or ethos. American journalism is dying. And with it, our republic.

I’ll never forget the pearl clutching and solidarity behind FOX when Obama argued that they weren’t a real news organization.

@blandsten.bsky.social “I’ll never forget the pearl clutching and solidarity behind FOX when Obama argued that they weren’t a real news organization.” Or when FOXNEWS claimed its evening talent weren’t newsers when FOXNEWS was sued

Who's going to stand up for her? The NewsMax reporter? The Mike Lindell reporter? Steve Bannon's reporter? Because that's who's in the room now.

Democracy died. Fascism is here. Legal residents of the United States sent to foreign prisons without due process. Students detained after voicing their opinions. Federal judges threatened with impeachment for ruling against trumps priorities.

You're letting realities get in the way of everyone's death spiral hyperbole.

In a room full of sycophants, the only question is how did she get in here.

Hmm. I'm not sure journalism is dying. There are a lot of people doing their best to expose the corruption. A lot is happening. Obviously mainstream journalism is pretty much dead and it is causing grievous damage to our republic. How do we replace it?

Yes

It’s already dead.

In perspective, Collins herself never had nor will stand up for a fellow "journalist." It's shitty that there never was nor will be a member of that useless club that would stand up for each other, but she's exactly as bad as her peers. That's why they're in that room.

I don’t understand how they can allow their colleague’s regardless of what news organization to be berated by an idiot and not repeat the exact same question when it’s their turn and all should follow like what the fuck???

If a public official did that to a Fox Reporter or from some more miserable RW outlet, I'd have followed her question by asking the same thing and wondering aloud whether he could respond without resorting to personal insult. Instead, crickets from these shitheels.

They are not journalists. They are Nero's stenographers.

We must resist oppression, fascism, racism, and inequality with every fiber of our moral being! Stand up and say NO- Lady LIBERTY export tyranny From our shores 👇👇

Dying? It has been dead for years!

But not hyperbole. That's always been with us.

They’re too afraid to invite a comedian to the WHCD that might insult a President that won’t even be there. Pathetic.

Helen Thomas would NOT have put up with a fellow journalist being told to smile more from ANYONE, let alone this so-called "president".

TikTok just banned Marc Dann, former AG of Ohio and TNU team member for calling on all citizens to call the Hennepin County prosecutor in Minnesota to demand indictments in the murder of Alex Pretti and Rene Nicole Goode. youtu.be/zcAJB8A92HM

Too many people doubt themselves. And we are the worse for it. Consider this, Billionaires right now are throwing trillions of dollars trying to recreate an average brain (AI). The average person is born with that tool in their head. But we still think poorly of ourselves. Stand up. Speak.

More like being murdered

Such cowardice just allowing it to happen. Not a word. And journalists used to be the hero’s.

no society has ever been failed by an institution more completely than the american people have been failed by the collaborationist court media

Correct, and all of the “tell all”/“behind the scenes” books from those silent WHPC cowards deserve dollar store back shelves.

I still haven't seen it reported who the other reporter was in that exchange. I guess it doesn't matter all that much since this is what they all do 95% of the time but I'm petty and I want to know.

Stand up

Are we expecting too much from our press? It seems that they aren’t really concerned about freedom of the press issues. At least they get a paycheck and are able to feed their family. No, the press isn’t the problem here. It’s too easy to blame them. No, it’s us - the American people.

It’s staggeringly shameful.

100% this.

"The fuck you say??" Just. One. Person.

Colleagues do not exist anymore. Everyone in the WHPC is either a network reporter looking for their internet/network hit or a right wing suck up who would tell Trump even though he shit his pants it smells like roses.

People are not listening to hear, rather listening to know when other sound stops so they can talk.

The WH Press corps deserve their abuse when they don't shout down Trump, Leavitt, and others when they behave this way.

Brings a different meaning to "Freedom of the Press" doesn't it?

They don’t even have to confront the asshole directly. Just ask one of the grinning toadies always standing around Trump if they let their kids talk to people like that.

Yes, all journalists should walk out when he does that. They can come back the next day. But they can leave when his behavior is unacceptable.

Ответ для Elvis-it's a nickname

Problem is, they know there won’t be a next day if they walk out. At this point, I’m not sure if it matters.

Dead!

Face-front journalists who ask loaded questions to get clicks are a fact of life. You see them all the time. They (she) want to make news, not report it or uncover scoops. Media is an entertainment business; Trump is a blowhard bully. She knew he'd bust her, and that's her hed. No brava.

Horseshit. Asking after the Epstein victims in the wake of the release of 3 million documents isn't a loaded question. It's a direct query about how the President regards the standing of those women. It's straight-up journalism, but not a question he wants to answer. That's all.

Hmmm, perhaps the past tense would be more accurate .

No, there are still some good reporters fighting and producing in spite of all. I'm not much on hyperbole.

We the people did it 2 ourselves. We the people create the parties. We determine the candidates, we elect the candidates & we oversee our elected officials. We primary the ones that aren’t successful, we the people create companies & choose where we work and shop. This was created by all of us.

Fourth estate ownership is traditionally someone with an established fortune willing to be responsible for the power that comes with wealth, or a determined publisher who takes responsibility for having a voice. Neither considered it a profit center. Until the billionaire class. #fuck0000000000

I also keep wondering what would happen if the ILA and the ILWU stood up to the bully. Journalists could learn a lot from “they come for one, they face us all.”

There is an epidemic of cowardice in America. Cowardice is contagious. You know what else is? Courage.

Excuse the brief interruption of your fatalism but just out of idle curiosity, who in that press room of maga toadies would be inclined to speak up? The Newsmax guy? The Bannon "reporter"? The state run fox news guy? The Dear Leader gazette correspondent? Or maybe the guy from truth social?

Mainstream Media is owned by Oligarchs who are almost entirely REPUBLICANS. There’s no LIBERAL Media. Please. 😜

Exactly. The rest of the men in that room were silent. Disgusting.

France is currently on its fifth republic. There is a path forward but it gets uglier before it gets better.

Meanwhile Tom Llamas just sat there & let Trump lie non stop
