There's been a user interface update on the British Newspaper Archive. Let it just be said, I'm not happy 😡 They've gone into the trap of moving well-established menus around and adding extra clicks in simple steps in the name of a slicker appearance, totally breaking muscle memory of regular users

The filter menu used to come up by default on the left of screen. Now it will come up on the right by default, but only if you go through a multi-click process to bring it up. Why?! Why move it from the left of pane to the right? Why introduce extra clicks to slow down process of filtering results?

You are not alone, it hasn't gone down well. You only have to look at their facebook page to read the complaints, the most common of which is that 'recently added titles' has been scrapped. Oh, and they have bumped up subscription prices by 20%.

Ooh, there's a facebook page to go and complain on? Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to go find it to join the pile on. I imagine most BNPA users are probably like me very regular users with niche research interests, not casual browsers, who won't notice such tweaks to an interface.

And it also completely forgets I have a subscription!!! Logging in successfully, told to check out my "last viewed" article, then "You must sign up to see this" message pops up. Sae with other articles. Stiff email dispatched! If it ain't broke &c...

I also *really* don't need a little icon on search results to tell me which are free, which are free today only, and which need a subscription, when I already have the subscription and am logged in with it!

Oh Jesus. Using this today and complete panic at first as all my saved files gone. Actually moved but FFS, now I can't save into these and have sporadic access to 'workspaces' and 'collections'. Amongst many issues when viewing a page can't see date or title of newspaper. Not an improvement😡.
