I love how tied together Dracula and Frankenstein are in pop culture but I do think it's funny how they're considered contemporary classics when there's as much time between publication of Frankenstein and Dracula as there is between the publication of Dracula and release of Texas Chain Saw Massacre

I'd say more to do with their movies. There aren't really literary backings to Mummy or Wolfman and they're all hanging at luaus together

That really cemented it, but it goes back even further, those were coming up as adaptations on the stage together, both Universal films were adapted from plays, even Universal's decision to lead with those in '31 speaks to a pre-existing connection.

And it was the plays that introduced certain ubiquitous pieces of iconography for the characters, like the lightning and laboratory doodads for Frankenstein because the novels descriptions of the creation of the monster was left mostly ambiguous and audiences needed visual spectacle.
