IIRC the law was that the humans can't enter Shire without hobbits' approval and it was a direct consequence of Shire being ravaged by Saruman, allowing them to heal from that. One of his messages was also that isolationism cannot protect you from evil.
Samwise Gamgee is primarily known for helping Frodo get rid of that dastardly ring, but his life's mission is to educate the shire about declining birth rates and also he needs to get ALL the microplastics out of balls RIGHT NOW so do you know any wizards?
[hobbit bard grabbing a lute] So I’m drinkin' warm ale at the Green Dragon Inn,
Tryin' to wash away this Shire-sized sin.
Yeah, my lass ran away with a Brandybuck fool,
Took my best pipe and my gardenin' tool!
Oh, I got no boots on these hairy little feet,
But a country hobbit's life is still pretty sweet.
Yeah, pour me a pint, let the fiddle softly play,
‘Cause tomorrow is a six-meal-a-day kinda day.
This is COMPLETE bullshit, and it's part of the same stupid trend that gave female dwarves beards (nope) and humiliated Emowyn for the entertainment value. All to pander to the fucking neckbeards.
And here we go again.
Tolkien HATED this race baiting bullshit.
His letters prove it.
"The Letters of JRR Tolkien." #30. A German publisher asks about his ancestry. This is in 1938. In his reply, he calls the question "impertinent and irrelevant."
#29, he rants to a friend about how the attitude of the German publisher pisses him off.
"They're not very concerned about what goes on beyond the borders of the shire."
Ah yes, they famously just stay in the shire and never go beyond its borders. In all the books and the movies, they just chill in the shire.
I mean most of em don't leave.
Of course that lands them under the rule of ol' Sharkey... Tolkien had a lot of issues, but he was pretty clear on that one it seems.
