What EA do? Besides not give me Dead Space 2 remake.

Ответ для skitzxx3

EA has been shooting itself in the face every year since 200...3?

Ответ для himham

I worked at EA in early 2000s. Place was filled with shotguns then. So yeah.

Ответ для Kevin

Never forgive them for shredding Westwood

Why is steam here?

Evercade 😁🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I mean Nintendo and steam aren't really shooting themselves more like being shot by the constant issues in the industry right now.

Plenty of indie games to enjoy.

Happy FriYAY

depicting all of these as them shooting themselves in the face feels just insincere. Also just... bad taste.

Ответ для Sadnehs

you'll get over it

What did Nintendo do? Oh god I’m afraid I missed it

Ответ для Jos Freeman

i don't know, last complaint i heard was "nintendo did something years ago and it was bad" which, fair, but microsoft and sony are doing bad things right now in this moment and people are still mad at nintendo ending that one metroid 2 fan remake (which was so long ago that i forgot about it)

Ответ для TM64G

Sued Palworld, tries to patent common gameplay mechanics, and lost big in court and got several of their gameplay patents invalidated.

Ответ для shuberfuber

oh yeah, they tried to patent the thing that pokeballs do and the court of kongo bongo (or whichever it was) said "no that's stupid and also way too hard to define" the palworld thing i kinda get? like a handful the designs were so stolen it was almost funny

Ответ для TM64G

Yeah. I do agree on palworld. Mechanics it’s a no no. We don’t want another nemesis system dilemma.

Ответ для Jos Freeman

Hey, let’s just focus on the fun and maybe come up with some secret gaming plans! 🎮✨😏

Ответ для Jos Freeman

The thing is Nintendo can't sue Palworld as long as these designs don't compete in an area where the design matters. If Palworld made Trading Cards or plushies, Nintendo could sue. They could sue if it was an actual Pokémon clone. For a survival shooter, they can't.

Ответ для TM64G

Except they apparently never sued over designs. Have to admit, it shocked me at first, but thinking back to Action Replay and the like, it makes sense. If even their Groudon and Kyogre knockoffs on packaging wasn't enough, then Palworld sure as hell was safe

Ответ для Vee

(ok maybe not sure as hell, some of those designs are... Definitely really close)

Ответ для Vee

honestly i have to respect the bravery to just go "make electabuzz egg-shaped and give it an autocannon" and put it into a game that you have to pay for

Ответ для Vee

Because if they sued over design, they also open themselves up to a lot of lawsuits from other older games they likely took inspiration from.

Ответ для shuberfuber

Plagiarism doesn't get accounted for in trademark and copyright law, so even if they wanted to they literally cannot sue over palword being unoriginal as fuck. If you allude to dragon quest, dragon quest didn't invent slimes, bats, golems and ghosts + the character designs are actually different.

Ответ для shuberfuber

It does make me feel a bit relieved (e.g. one of the monsters in the world my book is set in I made back before Gen III, and it resembles Lotad somewhat. So Nintendo not going after designs makes me feel a bit safer with some of my mon designs I've had to set aside b/c of games that came out since)

Ответ для TM64G

Don't forget the whole patenting gliding by holding onto a flying creature thing, too.

Ответ для shuberfuber

To be fair, Palworld was straight-up Pokemon. 🤣

Ответ для tomhoefwrites

And Pepsi is straight-up Coca-Cola, but somehow they found a way to coexist and compete without cease & desist.

Ответ для mattias-j
Ответ для tomhoefwrites
Ответ для shuberfuber

Having their software patents overturned sounds like a blessing, shareholders wont like it but for the industry its good

Ответ для DukeDragon28 🤝🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The overturned part was a blessing. But the "even trying to patent it" and spent millions to defend it is the "shooting themselves in the foot".

Ответ для shuberfuber

Everyone of the big three has patents to "common" gameplay mechanics. The thing is it's a common mechanic but with very specific restrictions, which people like to neglect. E.g. people saying Nintendo patented monster summoning, while it has to be from an object that is thrown by the player.

Ответ для TM64G

The “Nintendo goes too hard after individual fan-game creators” criticism pales next to Sony and MS essentially trying to destroy what’s good about the entire gaming industry for EVERYONE. We all killed Nintendo for Switch 2 price hikes, which now seem mild next to what Sony, Valve, & MS are doing.

Ответ для TM64G

It's like people are unable to admit that there's tiers to this stuff. Like yeah none of the big billion dollar companies are your friends but Nintendo just isn't in the same boat as Sony and Microsoft. Valve's issues are also kinda distinct

Ответ для pinko-slime

Agreed. Corpos are gonna corpo anyway, but at least some have some sense of decency.

Ответ для Jos Freeman

They raised the base salary by 10% and hired, what, 300 extra permanent employees

Ответ для Dead voxel

Yup. The only good news I’ve heard this week. (Maybe year?)

Ответ для Jos Freeman

I don't think it's recent... but the last thing they did was put us in a situation were game key cards exists...

Ответ для Jos Freeman

They are doing digital downloads instead of truly physical releases.trying to raise the price of game in the industry

Happy Friday Laila! I hope you have a great weekend 😄 I feel like I missed a lot. I've been too busy playing things to keep up with gaming news 😅

Gamers should be crying because they can't fap to a random new female character.

Dunno why steam is on here, Valve didn't do anything stupid, they aren't responsible for genAI and tech companies inflating prices.

But we all know that we probably won't 🥲

Forgot Unity

Ответ для mtg-wadas

So true

Does anyone want to start there own indy gaming company to compete? Would love to see the same people back in the day come back to a grass routes movement. Take away gaming from big tech

I still haven’t recovered from the physical copy news. Sony is making a huge mistake.

I hope so too. Unfortunately, it's a cash flow problem, the CEO's are to busy counting the cash to put any effort into putting out quality games.

Imagine gasoline would be limitless... game industries are out of architecture idea... almost nothing looks original... it's always the same shit... and the few looking original are made of complex geometry with stunning effects... They reached an END... And that's all...

Ответ для 🏴‍☠️ 🅢🅐🅘🅝🅣🅗🅔🅛🅛 🏴‍☠️

Nah. So many games are just limited by the shareholders wanting more and more money, whereas companies like Larian studios took a well known game and developed a game they themselves wanted to enjoy and developed Baldur's Gate 3. Developers just don't get enough time to actually gamedevelop anymore.

Ответ для Tease-a-bean

Baldur's gate were made from passion, nowaday It's no more the case. Because shareholders urge to make it good fast... They kills the essence of passion to make it good as it always been.

greedy people say nah now they hold all the power they will ruin games

OK, I'm a gamer and I completely do not get this meme. A little help?

What did Nintendo do? Piss in your cheerios? (Reminder that the GKC are an optional choice for publishers to use)(Nintendo isn't forcing anyone to use them) Nintendo also these last few years hired more staff and twice gave pay raises.

Ответ для knightingael

Dismantling fan events, suing for frivolous patents, charging insane prices for obsolete tech (switch 2), charging insane prices for slop, hating their speedrunning fanbase, boycotting smash games from entering tournaments... but yeah all they did was piss in that dudes cheerios

Ответ для GESI ⚡

This is a list of stuff like 1% of people care about

Ответ для GESI ⚡

the switch 2 costs less than the PS4 did at launch and thats with accounting for inflation. "slop" isnt even a criticism thats just vibes based whinging (and iirc the only overpriced game is mario kart world?). the rest of that is annoying community stuff for sure but isnt related to the industry.

Ответ для GESI ⚡

The Steam Deck has comparable tech, but costs much, much more...

Ответ для knightingael

Hardcore fans think Nintendo doesn’t cater to them enough. Which is true; Nintendo doesn’t cater to niche fans. A valid criticism, but nothing near as alarming as Sony & MS trying to upend the entire gaming industry for EVERYONE.

Valve didn't really shoot themselves, they got murdered by the AI bubble. All the others were making bad decisions before AI became an issue.

Ответ для Penny Patton

Valve is currently in the process of going to a federal jury trial for anticompetitive actions

What did steam do?

Ответ для trannus🏳️‍⚧️🔪aran (computerliebe arc)

It’s always the ones who get most attached to the games aimed at kids, too

Same. I'm just hoping for some solid updates and fewer buggy launches this season. What are you playing this weekend?

Good morning, Laila

Happy Friday Laila!

It's really weird watching the industry just completely implode. So much harm caused by poor management decisions.

Someone should make a game about this!

Going back to PC gaming, where at least I can just pirate all the old games I played on PS5, which I purchased on PS4.

I need a new hobby…

I’m not a gamer, but intrigued— is most of this adopting an AI allegiance?

It's always some motherfucker with a Nintendo character as there profile picture wondering what Nintendo did... NINTENDO IS CONSTANTLY DOING SHIT BRUH.

wait, what did steam do? if its about the steam machine prices, that wasn't suicide, that was murder.

I'll take some bad AI and or data centre news.

Ответ для Wayne

Like all the AI and survellience Data Centers exploding :3 pew pew, fireworks

Ответ для Vee

I'm in Australia but I'll saw happy Fourth Of July for that.

You call it bad news, I call it overdue. We let them get away with way too much insane shit over the years like good lemmings, it's start to clean up house.

Ответ для netphenix

Gaming will still be there after most of those are gone, and maybe we won't have to fork out 80 plus bucks for annual franchise slop they can repossess any time they damn well please.

Ответ для 🏳️‍⚧️RottieWitch🔞🏳️‍🌈

They did get shafted by the price changes and lost some lawsuit but neither of those things was a result of their own actions so it's a bit strange

Ответ для Gentleman33

They have been fighting a case in NYC in which they assert that lootboxes in Counter Strike are not gambling despite operating a market in which the rewards they contain can be sold for money Like how Gambling in Japan is illegal but you can win metal balls that are exchanged across the street.

Ответ для JayCee Jay

Okay well I suppose this is a result of their own although still they haven't lost yet

Ответ для Gentleman33

Yeah Valve do some shitty things but they don't go out of their way to radiate pure evil like the big three do.

Ответ для JayCee Jay

There’s also another case Valve is involved in that’s accusing them of monopolistic behaviour, specifically through price coercion. Where they told devs they’d kick them off Steam if they were undercut somewhere else. This included both Ubi and Msft, in relation to both their own games and store

Ответ для JayCee Jay

This is true. Fuck lootboxes. Valve is no exception from that. I think most people are talking about the Steam Machine prices, though, which is hardly Valve's fault. If someone is mad at Valve over hardware pricing instead of Microsoft, Meta, Google, etcetera then they're part of the problem.

Ответ для 🏳️‍⚧️RottieWitch🔞🏳️‍🌈

Because op is a moron

Nintendo is the only one who hasn't blasted themselves in the face, but they are eyeing that shotgun and pondering it

Steam’s buckshot to the face was staged by Meta and Open AI

GoG in thebackground - VINDICATION!!!

Ответ для Killbo Fraggins
Ответ для Illusn

wtf

Ответ для Trace Reading 🗿🎼⚡😈

Yeah, all I can think of recently is the Steam Machine being overpriced which wasn't exactly a choice.

Good riddance, it's a wonder AAA hasn't circlejerked itself to death sooner.

Realitiscally if Nintendo does something catastrophic its gonna be a while later they'd be late to the party like that

Capitalism sucks. Vote for better legislators.

are you fed up of the depressing AAA industry? then help support an indie dev! I swear with the way things are going it seems like Indies are the ones we should support more. #indie

What'd steam do?

Ответ для Jarvin

It's probably in relation to the Steam Machine price announcement. I think for what it is, it's not a terrible price, but I know it'll scare a lot of people off

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

To me that doesn't really feel like Valve's fault though. That's like getting mad at Squishmallows if their price were to go up due to a pillow company cornering the market on cotton/other resources used to make the Squishmallows in the first place. Weren't there projections of it being $700?

Ответ для Jarvin

Don't get me wrong I do agree with you, I was just saying what I think the post was getting at. There were early projections of it being $700 but there was a long period where pricing was really up in the air due to the rampocalypse

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

People hate Valve because of Machine price instead of boycotting Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia etc for that stupid AI bubble

Ответ для Az0R

Turns out I was boycotting all those companies and didn't even realise.

Ответ для Az0R

You can do TWO things

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

Nah, I agree with you on all points. Just disagreeing with other people's possible assessments.

Ответ для Jarvin

People don't realize that if valve sold hardware at a loss, people would buy them for nefarious purposes instead of gaming. It's just not an option. It would be bad for everyone, and they'd be sold out.

Ответ для Jarvin

They were, also unlike the other stuff here, valve is simply giving a pc gaming option for people to choose, you can totally build your own pc with steamos no problem, they want an open pc ecosystem, it's not like the others where you're forced to comply.

Ответ для Jarvin

Yeah its almost like something has been causing RAM to become incredibly expensive cause people cant stop making ai porn of Luna and Peach

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

Yeah, that's just unfortunate timing.

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

That is a thing not even close to making games or movies completely unavailable like Ubisoft and Sony did. Interesting take by the original image Of course, no one likes a high price for something, but there it's still a free choice. Sony and Ubisoft took consumers' money and ran away with it.

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

That is what it's going to cost for entry level gaming. The gaming industry now has to develop games almost exclusively for older hardware, or they'll die out because it was already a stretch to drop 500 dollars for entry level gaming, but 1,000 or 1500 is too much.

Ответ для CrispyDakota13

It is; which to be fair, is more due to ai companies snatching up the components needed and manufacturers failing to increase output to meet demand.

Ответ для Jarvin

Valve is far from a perfect company, despite the glazing everyone gives it. There are many reasons why someone would be unhappy with them. Mostly, it's smaller things that tend to affect more niche areas but there are general things like allowing games made with AI to be sold at all and whatnot.

Ответ для AshOfCenturies

Despite how much I hate ai, that shouldn't be a reason to hate steam. Expedition 33 used ai, and it was basically most popular game at the time.

Ответ для depth-vorpa

Just because a popular game uses AI, doesn't mean they should have nor does it mean we have to accept the usage of generative AI. Everyone has their own limits and lines. I'm merely offering one possible answer as to why someone might be unhappy with Valve.

Ответ для AshOfCenturies

Ah ok. I do not accept the usage, and a game using it might be incentive for me to not purchase it, but I do not think we should be going after steam, as they have done more for the anti ai crowd than any other gaming service.

Ответ для depth-vorpa

Personally, I think the AI content label is much better, and easier to enforce, then a full ban as people will just do it anyway. In my opinion, there are worse things Valve has done to be mad at, if those are the sorts of hills someone wants to die on.

Ответ для AshOfCenturies

The label at least gives consumers some warning and the choice to buy/not buy

Ответ для AshOfCenturies

I agree with the sentiment that Valve isn't perfect. I'm just thinking that juxtaposed with the meme shared, the comparison seems to be a stretch. I don't play on console so I wouldn't know this, do they verify if games are made with AI on their platforms and appropriately label it so?

Ответ для Jarvin

Nothing much really

Ответ для Jarvin

nothing. people are just dumb

Ответ для Jarvin

There was a variant of this meme with Steam getting shot with shotguns by RAM and AI companies, I think that one was more accurate

Ответ для Jarvin

I mean, steam/Valve isn't immune from some of the anti-consumer practices of the other companies. They still don't let you own the games you buy. And people really like to forget that they run a pretty scummy gambling system in CS2 with no age enforcement.

Ответ для McKay Fife

a random drop with a chance to get cosmetics you might otherwise have to pay for. & non-live service game can be played offline & many don't even need steam to be running. calm down thats like comparing the guy running 3-card-monte on a street corner to las vegas casinos. not great but not equal

From the best E3 in like 10 years to the torment nexus. Itll be better again one day but it hurts rn

I wish we were living a world, where physical media, digital, and streaming, were treated equally.

The good news is we will always have Indy games. If you have a PC take a break from over priced, unfinished games and give an Indy game a try. They will often surprise you and cost a fraction of the price.

Ответ для Dave

Ok boomer

gamers enabled this tho

Sad for the employees. Many content creators have been complaining about AAA studios for a long time now, for example all that hate content on YouTube. There seems to be a growing group of gamers who no longer buy expensive games. I have no data in front of me, just a feeling.

What on earth did steam do?

Ответ для depth-vorpa

Not update tf2 I guess

Ответ для Dead voxel

I thought they still did, albeit rarely?

Ответ для depth-vorpa

Not content updates mostly bug fixes and new cosmetics and maybe a bot ban wave, and extremely rarely a new map/game mode that will be disabled in a month due to bugs

These are good gaming news, gigacompanies are bad for the ecosystem.

Probably not. The industry is jumping off a cliff because oligarchs are cashing out.

I made this on Wednesday just because of how fucked everything is right now

Greed makes folks do weird 💩

You left out Sony and Bungie.
