they're really sweet and sociable, even the wild ones are way more important to their environment than most people think

Pigeons were absolutely domesticated animals, like cats, dogs, horses, and sheep for a vast swaths of human history.
When telecommunications went mainstream, they were, with almost insulting haste, abandoned.
It's honestly kind of messed up.
Pigeons are so damn funny; I have ‘Runts’, which is a misnomer because the breed is practically as big as a chicken, & they’re all just… so silly. One may even call them dumb sometimes xD
Fun fact: this is why you call pigeons in US cities feral and not wild! Feral is a term used to describe domesticated breedstock that exists outside of captivity. A feral cat was genetically modified through generations of breeding to be docile and personable to humans. A wild cat was not.
