imo theres a specific genre of nerd/gamer that used hyper criticism and snark to cover up their inferiority complex, especially back then where negative reviewers like Yahatzee and the like reigned supreme.
I have to admit, I'm glad we're done with the overly negative reviewer stereotype
The damage they've done to the retro gaming space cannot be overstated.
I have no idea if gaming spaces have gotten better, worse or the same (I tapped out during ground zero of gamer gate) but I agree! I'm glad the generation of game people after that had more variety in style and content (and fashion sense)
