Our second show of 2027 takes us somewhere brand new for MagicCon. We're headed to Japan as MagicCon Tokyo kicks off May 14th-16th! You may also see an Unannounced Universes Beyond set on the timeline. More details are coming at a later date, but that set will release April 9th.

TL:DR for those who haven't been keeping up with the story: During March of the Machine, Zhalfir returned from being phased out by Teferi long ago. It happened to emerge where Mirrodin used to be, hence the multiple suns in this art!

I had an unexpectedly strong reaction to seeing the single word Zhalfir on my screen here. I cried. Sometimes nostalgia is cloying and obviously artificial, but the idea of a return to Mirage block art, characters, etc with an African focus choked me up. I want this set to be such a huge success.

IMO this is the 2nd time they've done something interesting with the omenpaths. Smashing monsters and mechs into each other is maybe too zany, but if WotC managed to learn from the over-indulgence in tropes in Aetherdrift and shows a bit of restraint this could be a huge hit. I'm rooting for it.

Kudos to whomever decided not to reveal the UB sets as part of this presentation. There may be other factors at play that forces WotC's hand, but I appreciate letting the Magic Multiverse sets have the spotlight all to themselves. I hope that, moving forward, this is how these things go.

My block proposal in 2010 as one of the 101 people to advance in the GDS2 was an underwater world, so Nauctis is a dream come true for me. And what I'm seeing here is very close to what I imagined, including the shallows and humans in a bathysphere with diving suits. Can't wait to see more!
