can anyone recommend me good modern-ish (like 1980s-today) books... already have phm, earthsea, tlt, and some pratchett books on the reading list (as you can tell fantasy is a favorite but i also love detective/mystery and horror)

one I always recommend, though I don't know if it's a genre/vibe you're interested in, is The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. it's truly my favorite book ever- it's cozy sci-fi, found family character driven, with excellent word building and dialogue and characters and UGH

ive been trapped in classic book mines for a while and its starting to suck my soul out lol 😭

ive read metamorphosis, little prince, jekyll & hyde, and a bunch of lovecraft stories this year thus far. also about 1/3 into portrait of dorian grey and great gatsby, but admittedly classics are droning and hard to commit to when they're this long lmao

to spare your time out of all of this little prince is the best, genuinely drop everything and read it as soon as you can. such a beautiful book
