Y e p. They don't understand that he made the best choices he could. There wasn't a perfect option, so he did his best. And also when they throw "Mary-Sue" at Uta or say literally any other brain dead take just because they don't like her and want a "reason."

like he left her there so she wouldn’t have to keep running for the rest of her life!!! he took the blame for “her” actions!!! if he took her with him, she would be suffering a lot more uta being a mary sue makes me laugh lol. she’s more a girl who was allowed to pursue her interests when young

EXACTLY!!! If there was a way to take her with him without all that, we all know he would have done it. He just *couldn't* for her sake. She was allowed to, encouraged to, and guided so she could be the best at whatever she wanted. Have you read her chapter in the heroine's novel?

Absolutely *everything.* 😭😭😭 That was his baby girl. He refused to leave her with someone else, and it makes the fact that he had to in the movie so much more painful

I wrote notes while reading the chapter for a fic I'm working on and it's half actual notes and half me screaming over how much he adores her. Just unintelligible screaming It had me so fucked up😭😭😭

in one of my fics shanks calls her his girl, and iirc in the chapter he also called her that in one line and i was so happy, it’s so cute when he calls her “my girl” 😭😭 shanks and uta are so lovely…
