The Ashby  BART Access and Public Space Workshop invited community members to build models from found objects representing both a favorite mobility memory and their ideal Ashby BART station area. The event will help inform the design for the Ashby TOD plaza and access infrastructure.

While the activity appeared playful, it revealed participants' deeper mental, emotional, and physical relationships to place in ways that conventional public meetings rarely capture.

Participants envisioned places for quiet reflection alongside spaces for gathering, movement, and play. In partnership with the City of Berkeley and a newly selected development team, BART is laying the ground for an inclusive and vibrant TOD at the west parking lot of the Ashby BART station.

Hundreds of new homes affordable to people with a variety of incomes, new gathering spaces, and retail and/or cultural uses complementing the adjacent Lorin District businesses are among the goals that residents of Berkeley identified for TOD at Ashby. www.bart.gov/TODAshby
