Since the 2016 Fort MacMurray fire in Alberta, it seems that towns and cities are regularly burning to the ground. The new normal. Lytton in 2021. Enterprise NWT in 2023. Jasper in 2024. “What town will burn to the ground this summer?” 2026 is Spokane, just south of the border.

This thread - documenting the rapid growth of a new fire into Spokane, WA today - is terrifying. We’re used to wildfires in the Northwest but what’s happening right now in eastern Washington is not normal.

Yep. And yet a trillion dollars is being spent on data centers. They may be the onlys things standing as the planet burns. All because some idiots and his followers care more about money.

I don’t think the data centres will be left standing if the host city burns down around them. FWIW, the Thompson-Okanagan is already home to a cluster of data centres, which are powered by Hydro and cooled by the Thompson River and Lake Okanagan.
