I re-read The Odyssey about 8 years ago. Not the Emily Wilson translation, although I looked for it based on the recommendation of a friend who had written a book on Homer's influence on modernist writers. My local store didn't have it and I was impatient, so I grabbed Robert Fagles. It was good!

Cut to now when a major motion picture by a major director with a star-studded cast comes out based on the translation I was too impatient to locate by a translator now causing Discourse with her critique of said motion picture. I feel so uncool.

Fagles is too busy being dead to comment.

I presume other translators of the poem are also too dead to offer critiques. That was my first realization when I heard about Wilson's movie review. I have known I her translation for a while. But, I don't see it or "epic" movies needing to be faithful to a ancient text. Gimme pirate rabbits!
