Counterpoint to this, there was a bloke today about to step off into Horseguards while glued to his phone, I rang my bell and said "careful!" he said "sorry, thank you, good catch," and there we are.

Apparently, ringing your bike bell and shouting "careful" at someone who's about to step into the bike lane without looking is "rude" now 🙄

That's more like it!

I stepped into a cycle lane by mistake in the City a couple of months ago. I nearly got hit by this poor bloke. I was incredibly apologetic. I was a London cycle commuter for years.

it happens, and it's why I've always got my head on a swivel on my route, what with locals not looking, tourists looking the wrong way, etc.

I remember it well..

I had tow accidents in 15 years. Both pedestrians. Both times I threw myself off rather than hit them with the bike. Bowled one over with my body, but thankfully we all came out ok.

Two..

I've had three very close calls: crashed rather than hit a child, managed to swerve rather than hit someone, and came very close last week but he reacted to my yell in time and stayed on the pavement.

The oddest incident was a car cutting me up, badly, and I knew he had seen me, so I said something at his window. He got out.. and kept on growing. It was a tiny car and he was 6 foot 5..in a Bob's Gun T shirt. He smiled and said "Now, we fight!"..

It was at Holborn Circus. I backed up holding my bike between us as he kept coming. And, as if by magic two policeme, just appeared. One led him away and the other said I could see you had that under control, Sir, but I wanted to make sure you didn't hurt him. :). I was shaking like a leaf..

good heavens! Glad those fortuitous policemen arrived.

They weren't there. It was like they materialised. So grateful.

valid but anyone who says 'good catch*' is immediately sus right? *outside of sporting context

Maybe he was watching the cricket on his phone?

On the Kent coastal path a few years back, Mr Angry shouted "RING!" at my riding mate for passing within 2m of him from behind. Upon ringing my bell before passing him about a second later he called me a dick. There's no pleasing some idiots.

Yeah, can't win, so I try to take the course of action where nobody ends up in A&E.

In this case, I like to think his OH, who walked with him, might have bent his ear.

A pedestrian story. I got told to go *#s= myself yesterday by a chap who also threatened to have me arrested... For walking into his wing mirror with my shoulder as he was parked on the pavement. Glad you had a good one today.
