🚨BREAKING: Missouri voters have rejected a ballot measure to limit their own ability to pass amendments to the state constitution — a proposal that fueled extraordinarily high voter turnout in Tuesday’s election. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Missouri voters reject ballot measure limiting their power to amend state constitutionNotably, the proposed amendment would not have affected constitutional amendments that the legislature put on the ballot. Overwhelmingly!!! The voter turnout was much higher than usual and in-person early voting numbers were off the charts. Governor Kehoe’s insane and written-to-confuse amendments lost epically which is great for democracy.

We are dumb or as trump would say dum

Every state should have citizen led initiatives. Why are we lettiing a handful of people decide against what we want all the time. None of us wanted flock cameras and now look. None of us want data centers....

That is extraordinary

Wonderful news!

D's need to stop putting into their precious battleground states, and realize EVERY state is now a battleground. They are missing opportunities.

This was a huge turnout and overwhelming defeat in spite of support by Republican office holders including the governor. This is a huge win in a very red state

Of course it’s republicans trying to make it harder to exercise your rights. 🙄

A very gerrymandered state.

Voters decisively rejected this statewide. So happy to fill in that NO box

Same💙

Yes!!

This is encouraging!

Areas around here were running out of Democrat ballots.

I am almost shocked they would vote for their rights—such a novel concept in 2026.

Next: FIRE those who introduced and supported the failed measure. #FAFOTheory

At least we have that going for us. AIPAC still had its way, though.

Good rule of thumb: never vote for someone who wants to limit political participation.

How was it promoted? What arguments were used to try and make it sound like it would be in voters' interest?

Those two stupid-as-shit amendments got absolutely shellacked today. Proud to have been in the "no" camp.

Power to the People!!

WE THE PEOPLE

Americans keep voting against themselves 🤠

Not in this instance.

I’d like to amend not only our country’s constitution but also the state.

Ответ для klassmi

These ballot measures would have modified Missouri’s constitution. Republicans lost, at least this time.

Ответ для melissainkc

Vote for the right changes instead.

Ответ для klassmi

Missouri has passed many progressive, voter led ballot initiatives, like legalizing abortion. Hence the effort to curb their power.

Ответ для melissainkc

America’s electoral system sucks and so does the archaic constitutions. The whole nation needs updating. 🤠 #MadHatters

Ответ для klassmi

Fine. However, in this instance the people voted for their best interests, contrary to your original statement. Although there is way more work to do, this is a win to celebrate.

Ответ для melissainkc

Missouri is a red state and I prefer our votes count whatever the result. Fake democracies aren’t for me. 🤠

Ответ для klassmi

The amendment that was defeated was an attempt to make rural, more regressive area’s votes count more. So again, this is to be celebrated.

Missouri voters said to the people who are trying to subvert democracy in their state to:

Let's see how the GOP ignores that now. Missouri sucks.

It doesn’t matter since the republicans will not enforce it anyway

Seems red-state folks are really getting the not-voting-against-one's-own-interests thing.

When you spell it out in language they understand, yeah they get it.

Maybe next they could try not electing the absolute worst people to represent them.

Good for them .the new republican push is having g a amendment to raise income tax only, that will be replaced by sales tax in a minute. Its on the ballot in iowa.need to have 60% to raise only income tax .has Russell dickhead written all over it

Will they try and Ron DeSantis ballot initiatives next. 🤔

275k people in Missouri voted to diminish the principles of our Republic and their own ability to self govern. They failed but they exist.

I was thrilled that both amendments failed so decisively.

Would Congress vote to limit its powers? Besides with Trump?

Why does Missouri vote for Republicans that don’t want to listen to them?

As a Missouri voter, I knew going in that 4 and 5 were doomed to fail. Thank god.

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, the repubs didn't get away with it in missouri!! and perhaps drove a few people away from their side...

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if - from now on - every election in the 🇺🇸 had record numbers of registered voters turning out & voting?!? Let’s do it! 🗳️ 🗳️ 🗳️

Voter turnout does indeed make a difference.

Who would propose such a measure, they need to be voted out...

They tried this shit in Ohio too

.

Right on Missouri!!!

Go Missouri!

And show us how. Nebraska does the same damn thing to us.

If MO follows Ohio (& it usually does), have no fear.....the Republicans will just override the will of the voters, anyway. It may look like a win on the outside, but it will be ignored.

Strength in numbers. Americans need to vote. Power to the people.

Keep it up voters!

Yay for Missouri. 👏

If someone in good faith wanted to pass something like this it should also repeal everything in the state constitution that did not also pass with such a majority.

Me thinks Missourians are fuckin fed up with the people running their state.

Waking up? I sure hope so!

Not likely lol

that's a weird outcome. if people don't want limits on amendments, why did turnout spike?

#30million8/30 Why is it that the most obvious thing to do is the least likely thing to happen? The nation will move in the direction we take it. We possess all of the power. STOP READING THE HEADLINES! RISE UP! OVERTHROW! END FASCISM IN AMERICA!

Yes! I was at the polls around 11 here in MO. I was worried that local republicans would follow Kehoe, Burlison, etc. the AFP and others poured money into the push to pass amendment 4 and 5. I’ve never received so many flyers.

Next up STOP AMENDMENT 3 (vote "NO"). We've already voted about this in 2024 and we have to defend our vote AGAIN because of our dumb governor and state legislature.

And Republicans as usual will try to overturn our votes

MO is a red state

Thank you, voters! Proud to say that I gathered signatures for this petition with Reapect Mo Voters. It was my first time as a petition volunteer and it was the largest volunteer petition effort in our state.

Ответ для JFalter

Thank you too for your service being the first time as a petitioner

But ya gotta know that Missouri’s authoritarian regime will ignore the results & do whatever they want anyway via their endless fuckery.

I have another idea for Missouri voters. Don’t vote into office people who want to implement policies you need to override in the first place.

From unofficial (not certified) results from Missouri Secretary of State office. Even a lot of Republican voters joined in the beating delivered to these ballot measures placed on the ballot by their own party.

Ответ для Bill Hill

In case anyone not from MO is wondering… Amendment 5 was promoting the elimination of personal income tax in favor of increasing sales tax. So glad it was so roundly defeated and that Missouri sent not one, but two, reasons to be hopeful that not everyone has lost their tiny minds.

Ответ для mbstl

Inflation and Trump's tariffs have made everything so expensive made it unlikely that people would vote to increase sales tax on top. Affordability is a winning issue for Democrats to campaign on because even in a deep red stage it unites voters across party lines and Republicans have nothing.

Ответ для Bill Hill

This is a thing in Missouri. They vote for progressive referendums and also the dumbest Republican maga chuds on same ballot. I will never understand.

Ответ для Bill Hill

Over 200,000 thousand people wanted to limit their own voice in government. Holy fuck!!!

Huge Win for the People.

Love to see it
