I do not think the good influencer is what neutralizes a bad influencer. I dont think the way to stop this is "more speech". The only way to stop this is to prevent the platform from monetizing and profiting from the influencer- all of them.

I genuinely don't know what to do about this. In our diseased information environment, one MAGA-adjacent "influencer" can do more to shape public opinion than mountains of studies or facts. Where are the pro-clean-energy influencers to counter this shit?

It's becoming increasingly obvious that Facebook's monetization for user accounts has created a mechanical turk argument clinic to drive traffic for ad impressions. The good news is that this means anyone can get paid a couple hundred bucks a month to argue with morons. This is also the bad news.

What I am proposing is making Facebook (and every other social media and Google) unable to collect the data necessary to charge advertisers for delivering ads to a particular group or individual. To break their business model entirely.
