Good piece, which is not surprising since it’s Jamelle Bouie. I prefer this title to the one I saw on the NYT website, which was “Why do we tolerate Elon Musk’s racist commentary?” (Because unlike him we actually do care about freedom of speech?)

Perhaps we should care more about the corrosive effect of hate speech, on marginalized people in particular and society in general, rather than going to the wall to defend it out of a very nebulous and very white concept of "freedom."
